The Best WordPress Media Library Management Plugins

These plugins help you manage your WordPress Media Library

Happy Files

This is the de-facto standard WordPress Media Library management plugin that lets you assign your media to category folders. No actual folders are created on your server; it’s just metadata. As a bonus, it includes a gallery shortcode and Gutenberg block to display images from any categories you choose. If you update a category, it gets updated on the front end automatically. Free version is limited to ten categories, but there is an LTD for $59.

Media Library Enable Infinite Scrolling

I had a rude awakening when infinite scrolling was removed from the media library in WordPress version 5.8 and replaced with a “load more” button. It was done for accessibility reasons, but handicapping everyone is not the answer. This invaluable plugin restores infinite scroll to the WP media library. I install this on pretty much every site I have to deal with.

Media Library File Size

The Media Library is usually the culprit when looking for large files that are taking up too much space on your server. Maybe someone uploaded a bunch of images straight from their camera, or a huge WAV file, or whatever. There is no way to sort by file size in the standard Media Library. But this plugin lets you do exactly that! It’s a great way to find those huge files!
